USAGE OF WISH
USAGE OF WISH-
It’s used for things which are impossible or very unlikely-
For example-
I wish that I had a big house. ( I don’t have a big house, but it’s a nice idea.)
I wish that we didn’t need to work today.( we do need to work today, unfortunately).
STRUCTURE- SUBJECT + WISH + THAT + SIMPLE PAST.
WOULD is used with ‘wish’ to show about other people who are doing something that we don’t like and we want that person to change-
For example- I wish that neighbours would be quiet!
It is used with the Past Perfect to talk about regrets from the Past.
For example- I wish that the train had been on time.
Wish is used to replace “would like”. Here. The structure is – wish + to + infinitive
I wish to talk to the Principal. ( I would like to speak to the Principal.)
